Big Bash History
The first domestic T20 tournament in Australia was held in the 2005/06 season, and was won by the Victorian Bushrangers.
Back in 2005 the tournament was a 6 team tournament – made up of State sides – with 2 groups of 3 teams playing each other once. The group winners then contested the final (7 matches in total).
These days it has significantly changed, and the competition as we know it now is on a different level altogether.
It was back in the 2011/12 season that the competition re-branded itself and became the T20 Big Bash League (BBL). The competition we know and love today.
The most significant change of all though, seen the competing teams change from State sides, to be City franchises.
