Sri Lanka go into today’s match against Pakistan as 8/13 favourites to win the first Group F fixture, hardly surprising really when you look at the form of the two sides in the first section.

Although Pakistan are a funny side who can be brilliant or awful, their form so far has shown us nothing to say the brilliant team are due to show up. Hammered by an average England side they then went on to beat the Dutch in a must win game and did so with ease in the end, nothing to get carried away with though.

Compare that with the performances of Sri Lanka and the gulf in class looks immense. They showed professionalism in seeing off Australia and then blitzed the West Indies with the kind of batting performance Chris Gayle would have been proud off.

They have the explosive batting of Jayasuriya and Dilshan opening, followed by the oozing class of Sangakkara and Jayawardene. In the bowling department they have the pace of Lasith Malinga backed up by the spin due of Mendis and Muralitharan ensuring no batting side gets many easy runs.

Sri Lanka have no issues on the team front so can pick from a full squad of players. For Pakistan, Sohail Tanvir seems to have shaken off a back injury and looks set to start. Salman Butt may have run out of chances.
