Match Betting Preview

Not much to be had in this game from a betting point of view with India at just 1/16 with the bookies. The Indians have been replaced as favourites to win the tournament by South Africa and will be looking to restore their authority when they take on the Irish on Wednesday.

India have lost the services of opener Virender Sehwag for the remainder of the tournament, Dinesh Karthik has been called into the squad in his place. In Tuesday’s press conference MS Dhoni came under intense questioning from the Indian press as to the situation with Sehwag’s injury, with some still trying to suggest that all is unwell in the India camp, referring to the previous suggestions that there had been a rift between the two men.

The only rift on view on Tuesday was the one between the media and the Indian team mangement, the press conference descended into farce at times with journalists shouting at, and arguing with the Indian team manager Chamundeshwar Nath and putting MS Dhoni under pressure to come clean about the rumours doing the rounds about Sehwag.

No such trouble for the Irish who have another cup final to play when they take on the Indians. With both sides already through to the Super Eights Ireland may well see this as a chance to catch the Indians off their guard.

As well as Ireland have done at World Cups since 2007, this would be by far their biggest ever win should they pull off a shock victory over India in this Group A dead rubber. Their 138 against Bangladesh is the highest score Ireland have achieved in Twenty20, you would have be imagine they will need to score a lot more than that to win this match.

Niall O’Brien is a doubt for the match after picking up an ankle injury against Bangladesh. Although he will be determined to play the Irish management might have to hold him back with more big games to come in the Super Eights.
