Match Betting Preview

Despite being one of the most impressive teams to date in this tournament if Sri Lanka lose their first match of the competition on Tuesday it will be their last game as they will be out.

The match which has put Sri Lanka in this predicament is the one when they only beat Ireland by 9 runs. With Pakistan and New Zealand both scoring big wins against the Irish, Sri Lanka now have the worst run-rate out of the rest of the group, meaning a Kiwi victory on Tuesday would put Sri Lanka out on run-rate.

New Zealand took a hammering themselves in their last outing against Pakistan getting bowled out for 99. They know a repeat of that awful batting display will see them crash out so I would expect a better showing this time.

The bookmakers have Sri Lanka as favourites at a best price of 4/7 to take this winner takes all fixture. In what is now in effect a quarter-final the Kiwi’s are 8/5 to send Sri Lanka home.

New Zealand still have Ross Taylor and Daniel Vettori carrying injuries, to add to them Brendon McCullum has also picked up a niggle, would expect all three to turn out for this make-or-break game though as long as they can all get themselves to the crease. Sri Lanka look set to leave their team the unchanged.
