The third and final T20 of the series between England and Sri Lanka is at Southampton on Saturday. The first two games were back to back in Cardiff, so this is a change of scenery for the two teams.
For Sri Lanka, they will be hoping the change in scenery will result in a change in fortune. So far they’ve lost the first two matches pretty comprehensively, and only really challenged England briefly while the hosts were batting in the second match.
In terms of the series, this is a dead rubber. England are already 2-0 up with just this match to go. But with the T20 World Cup on the horizon, this match represents a chance for both teams to fine tune their tournament preparations.
In my match prediction for the 2nd T20, I wrote that it looked like men against boys, and when Sri Lanka were batting on Thursday, I thought I was spot on.
When England were languishing at 36/4 in their reply to Sri Lanka’s 111/7, I was starting to think that maybe I was wrong, and that maybe Sri Lanka’s struggles were more pitch related, than player related.
Anyway, England came through in the end and recorded a Duckworth/Lewis influenced 5 run victory. Comfortably done with 11 balls to spare.
Despite England’s struggles while batting, it really is hard to see anything other than another win for the hosts today.
