Two of the better looking sides from this years World Twenty20 kick off this years ICC Champions Trophy tournament at Supersport Park later today. In keeping with their impressive showing in all forms of international cricket at the moment South Africa are favourites for todays opener against Sri Lanka – they are also favourites to win the tournament.
The nearly men of World cricket, South Africa will be looking to put that tag behind them on home soil over the next two weeks. Sri Lanka are also no mugs and were unlucky in the World T20, eventually losing in the final to Pakistan.
Going into the match South Africa haven’t played any international games sice April so it’s hard to say where they are as a side. They could be rejuvenated and ready to go or they might be a bit on the rusty side, one thing you would expect though is that they will have prepared as thoroughly as is possible given the circumstances.
Sri Lanka have warmed up with a tri-nations tournament against India and New Zealand, they beat them both in the round robin stage but lost out to India in the final.
