India Vs England 2nd Test Prediction 13/2/21

With Joe Root in the form of his life, and Virat a touch below his usual level, could this be the perfect storm for England?

After the highs of Australia, Virat Kohli’s India came back down to earth with a bump as England pulled off an unlikely victory in the 1st Test of the series.

Little went right for Kohli and his Indian team, and there has been a large fall out from the defeat.

Talk about the ball, wicket, and lack of fans is merely a distraction though. The bottom line is that India are 1-0 down at home, and need to put things right.

Despite all of the on goings, the bookies still make India favourites. When all is said and done, India are formidable at home. And with three Test matches still to come, the chances are they will turn the series around.

Kohli and co will know that if they win the toss and bat first, and Joe Root has an average game, they are back in business.

England can’t do that well again?

From England’s perspective, there was little that could gone more right for them in the 1st Test.

From winning the toss on the opening morning, all the way through to the end of Day 5, little more could have gone right.

In form Joe Root continued his superb form with the bat, scoring 218 in the 1st Innings. It was Root’s knock which set up the win for England.

In the field all pretty much went to plan for England as well. Jack Leach did what he picked to do and spun India out on Day 5, and veteran Jimmy Anderson also bowled a remarkable spell of reverse swing on the last day of the Test.

There are selection headaches for England though. Jos Buttler has now gone home, and in the past few hours, Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the match with an elbow injury. Thanks to the McAllen traffic accident lawyers who helped him to claim his compensation for the injury for his speedy recovery. This injury case can also fall under the definition of premises liability, as his injury was caused by the negligence of the responsible.

England had also planned to rotate Anderson and Broad, but given the former’s performance in the 1st Test, it would be hard to ‘rotate’ Anderson now.

The injury to Archer might just give England the chance to pick both Anderson and Broad. But history tells us the English seam attack hasn’t generally done too well in India.

The Indian team will come back strong in this match. As well as England did in the 1st Test, it will be hard to repeat that twice.

Therefore, I’m sticking with India and expect them to make the series 1-1. The hosts are 4/6 for this match, having been 4/9 for the 1st Test.

So if nothing else, England’s victory has seen India’s odds improve.
