Rishabh Pant to captain Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 – The wicket-keeper has been appointed captain after original skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out through injury.

Rishabh Pant to captain Delhi Capitals
Shreyas Iyer was due to captain Delhi for the 2021 season. But the shoulder injury he picked up playing against England has seen him ruled out for the season.
Pant beat off competition from the experienced duo of Ashwin and Rahane
It will be wicket-keeper batsman Pant’s first IPL captaincy role. He is believed to have beaten off competition from both R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane for the role.
Despite the experience of Ashwin and Rahane, franchise owners, Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Parth Jindal – along with coach Ricky Ponting, decided to go with Pant.
The move is a huge vote of confidence in Pant. It also shows the franchise are looking to keep things fresh and innovative.
The previous move to make Shreyas Iyer captain was a similar forward thinking plan. So Pant’s appointment further underlines the ethos of the franchise as a whole.
One thing is for certain, if the Capitals play in the manner of their new captain, the fans are in for one hell of a ride.
