Kane Williamson’s New Zealand side completed a 2-0 series win over Pakistan, and in doing so became the No.1 Test team in the ICC cricket world rankings.
The Kiwis’s completed their second series clean sweep of their summer with the 2-0 win over Pakistan. This came on the back of a 2-0 series win over West Indies at the back of 2020.
New Zealand No.1 in Test Rankings
The win means New Zealand are the newly ranked number 1 Test team in world cricket. This is the first time the Kiwi’s have held this spot.
They have now got 118 points, taking them two above Australia (116), who are in the middle of a Test series against India.
New Zealand actually gained enough points to go top after going 1-0 up in the series over Pakistan to top the rankings.
They had to wait until the conclusion of the series (against Pakistan) for the ICC to update the rankings though.
In caps a brilliant period for the Black Caps though. A period that has also seen their skipper Kane Williamson rise to the top of the Test batting rankings.
The Skipper really has had a summer to savour.
Beating Pakistan 2-0 also ensured the Kiwi’s keep alive their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship.
They currently sit third in that table, behind Australia and India respectively.
