Windies blow their big chance

What a position the West Indies were in at the start of play today.

At the end of Day 2 they were over a hundred runs in front, with 2 wickets down. A solid 275-300 runs in their 2nd innings would surely have been enough to put them in with a real chance of pulling off their greatest test match victory in years.

So what do they go an do? In true West Indian style of late, they blow it and get bowled out for just 180. As usual it was left to Shiv Chanderpaul to carry the batting, and only Kirk Edwards and Darren Sammy chipped in and helped him.

I have no real preference who wins the test, but it would have been nice to see West Indies put in a solid display and make it a real contest, force India to dig deep to win, like Zimbabwe did to New Zealand a few days back.

But disappointingly West Indies crumbled again, basically telling the watching cricket world that not much has changed in their performances.

I was following the betting in this one as I had a few quid on India on Sunday (I covered my bet on Monday morning after a large change in the odds so I win no matter what), and at the end of Day 2 India were a ridiculously short price of 1.35.

I couldn’t believe they were that short, they must be low on confidence after the test matches against England earlier this year and they were behind in this game in my opinion, but West Indies proved the market was right after all.

Looking forward to the test match tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how Australia get on in their rebuilding after the recent series win over Sri Lanka.

South Africa are favourites at 27/20 with Betfair to win the 2 match series, if pushed to call a winner, I think I would go for the Saffers.

I also believe that South Africa will be very determined to claim the status of No.1 test team in the world, they will want to put down a real marker here ahead of the England series next year, so watch out Australia.
