Wellington Firebirds Vs Canterbury Kings Prediction 13/2/21

There can surely only be one winner of the 2020/21 Super Smash.

Wellington Firebirds have beaten everybody this season, and have been by far the best side in the whole competition.

They don’t have any of the real star names, but what Wellington does have, is a good team.

Yes, they have had the likes of Devon Conway and Finn Allen at the top of the order, and the experience and know how of Tom Blundell and Jimmy Neesham. But the Firebirds don’t boast the real Kiwi household names like other sides in the competition.

Comeback Kings in the Preliminary Final

Canterbury Kings went and pulled a performance out of the bag in the Preliminary Final on Thursday against Central Stags. And it was a performance that not too many seen coming.

Their bowling line up did the hard graft in restricting the Stags. With only an excellent century by Will Young getting Tom Bruce’s team up to a competitive total.

So it was over to the batters to get 181 for victory, and yet again the batting looked to have let the Kings down.

But then up stepped Daryl Mitchell and Cam Fletcher, with the duo putting on 132 for the fifth wicket.

It was an extraordinary comeback by the Kings, who had looked down and out at 38/4 in the 6th Over.

But it’s the batting that makes me think the Kings will fall short again in the final.

They won’t win too many T20s from 38/4, and certainly not against decent sides like Wellington.

All this makes it hard for me to see past Wellington winning this one.

Should we be concerned that the only match Wellington lost was against the Kings? Possibly, but the Kings were in pretty good form back then, and that form has tailed off significantly in the weeks since.

As I said at the start of the write up, the Firebirds are the best side in the competition. This makes them my betting tip to win the Super Smash final.
