If you have a good idea about how the pitch has been prepared before a cricket match, the top wicket-taker market might be a good way to play. This is particularly the case when a wicket suits the spinners, as is often the case in the sub-continent.
In the recent Tests between India and England, in which the hosts came out on top 3-1 in the four match series, the spinners dominated the wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jack Leach were the top wicket-takers for the two respective teams.
The conditions suited those players and, by contrast, it was a struggle for the seamers, including James Anderson who is one of the greatest Test bowlers of all time.
A different approach can be taken in T20 and limited-overs cricket. A lot of wickets tend to fall in the latter overs of a match when those at the crease try to find the boundary rope. Do some research into who bowls in the final stages of an innings, as they are more likely to be the winning selection in this market.
Total Runs
Most cricket punters tend to play the overs when it comes to any runs related markets such as total innings, opening six overs and opening over of a match. They do this as they want to see excitement. When there is a four or a six, they can cheer it over the line.
Most of the time, bookmakers set their lines quite high. This means the value play can often be under, even if it isn’t the most exciting thing to watch.
