Sydney Thunder Vs Brisbane Heat Prediction 31/1/21

No more chances after this one. The winners go through to play Perth Scorchers in the Challenger Match (semi-final) on Thursday, and the losers are out. Simple as that.

Over the course of the season, the Thunder have probably looked the most impressive of the two teams. But when you get to this stage of a competition, both sides have individuals capable on winning matches single handed.

Probably the most in-form exponent of that art is Alex Hales. At the moment Hales is in the incumbent of the Golden Cap (Big Bash top run scorer), and as his century against the Sixers nine days ago showed, he can produce match winning performances against anyone.

In a further boost to Sydney Thunder’s chances, all rounder Daniel Sams is available again after recovering from the hand injury he received against Hobart earlier in the month.

For Brisbane, they have match winners too. Chris Lynn has had a decent competition, and can produce match winning performances, and now to compliment Lynn, the Heat have Marnus Labuschagne.

Bizarrely, Labuschagne has probably had more impact in the field and with his bowling, than he has had with the bat. Nevertheless, he is a player capable with the bat.

A further boost for the Heat is the return to form with the bat of Jimmy Peirson. The wicket keeper’s knocks did play a large part in the Heat’s recovery from an abysmal start to the campaign, but he has had a couple of blips prior to the win over Adelaide.

This promises to be a tight match, one that could go either way. Sydney Thunder seem to be the slightly more assured of the two sides though.

Even when the Heat win, they seem to always find a way to make it harder for themselves. Even on Friday, they made far harder work of chasing down a modest target than they should have done.

For those reasons, I’m going with the Thunder to win this one.
