The unpredictable Pakistan get their campaign underway against an unrecognisable West Indies team today in Johannesburg. Pakistan are the clear favourites going into what looks like a mismatch against a West Indies thrown together just before the Bangladesh series.

Pakistan are without captain Younis Khan who fractured a finger in a warm up match last week, Shahid Afridi will deputise for him. It is expected that Younis will play a part in the tournament though. Mohammad Asif also is back in the squad and he will only add to the impressive array of bowlers already at the captain’s disposal.

West Indies are the only reason why England are not last in the betting for this competition. They bring a side which in reality is lucky to be allowed in the tournament – Banglasdesh might have good reason for complaint – made up of the odd former test player with some youngsters and men just to fill the shirts for the sake of it.

The team was well beaten by Bangladesh in the recent Test and ODI series in West Indies.

Probable Teams

Pakistan – Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal (WK), Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi (C), Naved-ul-Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Mohammad Aamer

West Indies – Dale Richards, Andre Fletcher, Devon Smith, Travis Dowlin, Floyd Reifer (C), Kieran Powell, David Bernard, Chadwick Walton (WK), Darren Sammy, Kemar Roach, Nikita Miller.
