Cricket Betting – Zimbabwe look good value

I can’t help but think that at 13/1 on Betfair,  Zimbabwe look worth a couple of silly quid in their one-off test match with Pakistan.

With a lead of nearly 300 runs on the board for Zimbabwe at the end of day 2, I can’t for the life of me see why Pakistan are as short as 2.44, while Zimbabwe are a massive 13/1. The draw is favourite at 1.9.

Pakistan are always capable of a spectacular batting collapse, so who in their right mind is prepared to back them at 2.44 in their current situation? With the exception of Mohammad Hafeez, no one has looked  to attack too much on this pitch so far. The pitch was supposed to be batsman friendly, yet Pakistan won the toss and elected to field.

I know Zimbabwe are an inexperienced side, but I think they are worth a small punt at these odds especially when you consider the opposition. Tomorrow, Pakistan could be 190 all out by lunch, or 600/5 at the close, you just never know. That’s why Zimbabwe represent good value.

Over in Sri Lanka and the test is already all over. Australia, that crap side that supposedly can’t win anything (not my view), are 1.04 (1/25) to win, Sri Lanka are 37/1 and the draw is 39/1. A bet on Australia is a bet on the weather, as that is all that will surely stop them here. Mahela Jayawardene is still at the crease, but even if he bats on, it’s hard too see anyone sticking with him for long enough to win the match. All in all, I wouldn’t touch Australia at that price.

Onto England and they are 1.71 to win the series. India are 2.62 and a drawn series is around about the 15/1 mark. Even though India are the 50 over world champions, it’s hard to have any confidence in them at the moment.

My head is telling me that England will win the series, but I am also not totally confident in the England 50 over side. For a start they are a team in transition, they are without Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell doesn’t really know his role in the side and we also have no middle order rope clearer established in the side – although Ben Stokes could maybe fill that role. My preferred choice for this role would have been Jos Buttler, but I understand the selection of Stokes as he is an all rounder.

England don’t inspire me with much confidence either, so for these reasons I’m not going to touch the opening ODI tomorrow. England are favourites for the opener, they are 1.67 and India are 2.44.

  1. Their inexperience though isn’t helping them. It is never easy to face Ajmal’s doosras in the second innings and there are times when it almost looks unplayable.

  2. Yeah, they fell apart in the end. I was banking on Pakistan’s ability to make a mess of things in their 1st innings, but it sounds like they were very watchful and made sure they didn’t make a mess of things.

Even after that I think if Zimbabwe had set them 180-200 on the last day, it would have been interesting. As it was 88 (or whatever it was) was way too short.

I think Zimbabwe have shown plenty of promise in their recent 2 test matches, they have shown that they are no less competitive than Bangladesh, and probably have more grit and determination than West Indies.

  3. The performance of Zimbabwe against the Pakistan was better than before, I know Zimbabwe are an inexperienced side but there is a chances of Zimbabwe winning because the fine performance of Zimbabwe against the Bangladesh proved that Zimbabwe are not quiet this time. The pitch was betting friendly Pakistan batsman can per foam better! but accept Mohammad Hafeez no one has try to attack too much on this pitch.
