After 14 wickets fell on day 2, Pakistan now lead the match by 82 runs with 9, 2nd innings wickets remaining. Starting day 2 on 289/7, Pakistan would have been hoping for some help from their tail, unfortunately they didn’t get any as the final 3 wickets fell for the addition of just 10 runs. Chaminda Vaas showed he could still do a job with fighures of 1/43 off 20 overs.
When Sri Lanka came to bat Pakistan had them in all sorts of trouble. At one stage the hosts were only 82 for 4 and in real trouble. Only a partnership of 81 between former captain Jayawardene and Angelo Matthews and a big hitting 44 down the order from Dilshan helped get the Sri Lankans up to a respectable total of 233.
That left Pakistan with a tricky period of 9 overs to negotiate before the close of play, they almost managed it with Khurram Manzoor falling to the second last ball of the day, having scored a painstaking 2 off 28 balls in over half an hour.
Pakistan 299 and 61/1. Sri Lanka 233
