Rafael Nadal Favourite for French Open

Despite his unbelievable run, Novak Djokovic hasn’t managed to unseat Rafael Nadal as the bookmakers favourite at this years French Open.

Nadal is the best price he has been to win this tournament for years, you can get him at Even money with Sportingbet, he is 10/11 in general. Djokovic comes in 2nd favourite at 2/1 with Betfair, while Federer is 3rd favouite at 16/1 with William Hill.

Andy Murray is generally available at 16/1, with a standout price of 20/1 with Sportingbet available.

On form and with the clay surface, I wouldn’t touch Federer with a barge poll. I know he won the title a couple of years back, but he is in Djokovic’s half of the draw and I can’t see him beating the Serb on clay.

Djokovic is obvioulsy the form man, he thrased Nadal in the final of last weeks Rome Masters. After Djokovic’s hard fought semi-final with Andy Murray on the previous night, I though Nadal was a certainty to win the final – but remakably, Djokovic came through again.

The bookies had Nadal as favourite for that final too. Given Nadal is favourite for the French, it’s obvious that Djokovic hasn’t convinced the bookmakers that he is the real thing just yet.

Andy Murray actually gave Djokovic the harder game in Rome, in fact Murray should have ended his unbeaten run, he had the Serb looking down and out but couldn’t finish the job.

I can’t see Murray being consistent enough to mount a challenge here. A semi-final appearance would probably represent a successful tournament for him. He also has the slight problem of being in the same half of the draw as Nadal.
