South Africa are the bookmakers 4/7 favourites and will be looking to put an end to the “chokers” tag when they take on Pakistan in the first Semi-Final at Trent Bridge on Thursday. So far in this competition the Africans have looked by far the most accomplished side and are most peoples stand out bet to win their first competition on the World stage.

The time looks right for Captain Graeme Smith, he now looks the real deal and has a great blend of youth and experience in his team. All but a few of the team that played in the 2007 Semi-Final defeat remain – and the previous two Semi-Finals defeats were in the 90’s – meaning that there is minimum mental scares remaining.

Pakistan are probally surprised in themselves to be even contesting a Semi-Final, after an indifferent up-an-down tournament the fact they are still in it is an achievement in itself.

At the start of the competition they probally would have happily took a Semi-Final spot as a good result, but now that they are here they are a dangerous outfit as they have nothing to lose really and can go out and play with freedom.
