West Indies produced a couple of surprises when they announce their 13 man squad for the 1st and 2nd one day internationals against India. Fidel Edwards is left out while he recovers from a back injury.
The omissions of Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy are something of a shock to most after both showed encouraging signs in the recent World Twenty20 in England and according to certain West Indian commentators is yet another step backwards from the West Indies cricket board. One notable inclusion is Darren Bravo – the half brother off Dwayne Bravo – who has been dubbed the new Brian Lara! Not much to live up to there.
India have left out Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan in order for them to both rest niggling injuries they have been carrying for a while. Virender Sehwag is also out with the shoulder injury which forced him out of the World Twenty20 tournament, Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan have been dropped though.
There is recalls for both Ashish Nehra and RP Singh, while allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and Abhishek Nayar come into the squad.
