Live Summer Cricket: What August Has In Store

A summer without cricket is no summer at all and we’ve already been blessed with a series (no pun intended) of fabulous international fixtures that have proved to be hugely entertaining. With so much of the summer left there is still so much to enjoy.

It’s a shame that all key international cricket fixtures aren’t shown live on terrestrial TV, as key international football fixtures are. But with Sky dedicating Sky Sports 2 to a summer of cricket, renaming it Sky Sports Ashes, there is plenty of quality cricket to be seen live on TV.

England v Australia Test Series – Day 1

The 1st August sees day one of the third England v Australia Test Series shown live on Sky Sports, from Old Trafford. Coverage starts at 10 o’clock while the match starts at 11.

After finally winning the Ashes in Australia for the first time since 1987, England will be hoping to follow on from their success in 2011 on home soil this year.

It’s no surprise to hear England captain Alastair Cook assert that his fellow England cricketers will be defined by their performances in the Ashes. There’s something very special about winning the Ashes and this is a feeling felt by both fans and cricketers. Winning the Ashes is undeniably the best feeling in cricket for English and Australians alike. Indeed, like India and Pakistan, it is our rivalry with Australia that makes cricket so exciting to watch. What is a sport without rivals?

It’s also very comforting to enter into the Ashes series as overwhelming favourites, which is a position England are rarely in. For the first time ever, more and more fans are placing a sport bet on England to win this year’s Ashes.

With the Ashes running throughout the whole of August and finishing on Sunday 25th, we’ll be treated to a whole month of what we love best.

Youth Cricket & Women’s Cricket

If that wasn’t enough for international test series cricket, we’ll also be treated to an exciting international youth cricket fixture as England Under 19s line up against Pakistan Under 19s, on Friday 16th August at 2pm.

Of course, cricket is not just a man’s sport and women’s cricket can be very entertaining and definitely worth watching. On Tuesday 27th August, after the Ashes, the England Women’s team line up against the Australian Women’s team at 7pm, with coverage starting at 6.30pm.
Considering the following Thursday will see England up against Australia in the Twenty20 Ashes, we’re most certainly in store for an August filled with great cricket.
