World Twenty20 – Group F, The Brit Oval 13.30
Match Betting Preview
Pakistan go into their final group game against Ireland tomorrow knowing that a win puts them through to the semi-finals. After doing nothing and looking useless at times Pakistan turned round their form to score a comprehensive win over New Zealand and in doing so put themselves in the driving seat for a semi-final spot.
The bookmakers make Pakistan 1/14 favourites against an Irish side that did themselves proud with a gritty performance against Sri Lanka on Sunday afternoon. Pakistan would be doing well to have watched that game and to heed the warnings not to take the Irish lightly – an error they made in the 2007, 50 over World Cup in West Indies.
Pakistan will be out to avenge that 2007 defeat and put the record straight. Their bowling unit came to the party against New Zealand restricting the Kiwi’s to just 99 with Umar Gul taking an impressive 5 for 6 from three overs.
Ireland bowled well themselves in keeping Sri Lanka down to a respectable 149/9 at Lord’s on Sunday and their bowling unit shouldn’t be underestimated. In Boyd Rankin and Trent Johnston they have fast bowling that must be shown respect.
Neither side are likely to make any changes after impressive performances in their last outings. Ireland again have a slight injury concern over Niall O’Brien who turned his already troublesome ankle in the defeat to Sri Lanka – you would have to imagine he will play if able to walk though.
