Match Betting Preview
Ireland as expected were a well beaten side by India last night. In fairness they probally already had one eye on today’s Super Eights fixture with New Zealand, a game they knew they have more chance of winning and also a game with far more significance than yesterdays dead rubber.
New Zealand haven’t really got going in this tournament yet. They were given a scare by a pretty useless looking Scotland side and then lost a low scoring game against South Africa – one they didn’t need to win in fairness to them.
You get the impression that if the Kiwi’s take today’s opponents anything less than seriously they could be in for a big fall. The bookmakers have New Zealand big odd-on in the betting, but at odds of 1/10 and with the Kiwi injury list only a madman would back them. Jesse Ryder is definately out while captain Daniel Vettori – who has yet to play a match – and Ross Taylor are both struggling with injury.
Ireland are without problems of their own. Trent Johnson was rested for the India match with a sore shoulder, but is expected to play today. More worrying for the Irish is Niall O’Brien’s damaged ankle, from the reports we hear it dosen’t look too promising for him – you would have to imagine that without him Ireland’s chances look a lot slimmer.
