World Twenty20 – Group E, Lord’s 17.30
Match Betting Preview
The bookmakers have India at a best price 4/7 for toady’s clash with West Indies. Although India have lost tournament favouritism to South Africa, the bookies still fancy them strongly against West Indies despite India not having been tested yet in this competition.
West Indies on the other hand are a bit harder to work out. Although they hammered Australia it was mainly down to Chris Gayle’s innings. If more pressure had been put on the Windies middle-to-lower order how would they have coped? Have West Indies snapped out of their sulking performances against England yet? There are still plenty of question marks against this West Indies team.
India have been having off field problems of their own lately. Their own media have been putting them under immense pressure with hostile questioning about a number of issues – the main one being the relationship between Sehwag and Dhoni. With Sehwag having gone home now India will have some top order runs to replace as well.
Chris Gayle will come back into West Indies teama after resting an injury niggle for the Sri Lanka defeat. His replacement for that game, Lendl Simmons, has given the selectors plenty to think about with his excellent performance.
With the Sehwag issue sorted India have one less team selection to worry about. The only other issue is whether to use all rounder Irfan Pathan or pick one of specialist bowlers Praveen Kumar or RP Singh.
