England V Australia – 3rd Test, Day 4 Betting Preview

The draw has shortened again in the betting as Day 3 was a complete washout. The groundstaff saw their efforts of getting the outfield ready ruined by an afternoon downpour, leaving it covered in puddles.

There is still the prospect of more rain to come during the match, and on top of that the outfield is that wet underfoot that even when the weather is good the pitch might not be deemed fit enough to play on.

If they manage to get the ground ready for play on Sunday morning, England will be looking to put runs on the board and hoping to put Australia under pressure when they come to bat. Only England have any outside chance of winning the match from here, with the draw the most likely outcome.

Ian Bell will be hoping to take this opportunity to bat all day in his bid to restablish himself in the test team. With Ravi Bopara struggling at number 3, Bell must know that a good run of scores over the rest of this series will improve his chances of being retained when Kevin Pietersen comes back from injury.

For any chance of a result England will need to bat for most of or all of the day to try and build a lead of around 150 and then put the Aussies in. With nothing but a draw to play for Australia will then have the difficult task of batting out the final day in possibly swinging conditions similar to Friday’s, a task they won’t fancy too much.

Play is due to start at 12.00 on Sunday. Aus 263: Eng 116/2
