Day 3 was dominated again by Australia. After an English fightback of sorts in the morning session the Aussies again got on top and did what they they do best – when they have their foot on someones throat, they seem to press it down harder.

England got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 1st session with the new ball when Anderson got rid of Katich leg before, they then went on to remove Hussey and Ponting to leave Australia at 348/4 at lunch and get themselves right back in the game.

After lunch though normal service was resumed with Clarke and North looking more than comfortable getting to tea on 458/4 with a 1st innings lead. England’s bowling by this stage had started to look toothless with Swann and Broad in particular looking very poor.

Clarke finally fell after a rain break in the final session to a short ball from Broad after a chance free partnership of 143 with North which put Australia right back in control of the test match. After a rain interupted 3rd session they finished the day on 479/5.
