England have named their squad for the 3rd test starting at Edgbaston on Thursday and as expected Ian Bell will replace Kevin Pietersen in the team as he is one of only five specialist batsmen named in the squad.
The selectors resisted the temptation to add another batsman instead opting to go with the same squad from Lord’s minus Kevin Pietersen. National selector Geoff Miller reiterated the policy of building a squad not just a team in his backing of Ian Bell, Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar, claiming that all are capable of stepping in and doing a job.
With England’s consistent policy of not making many team changes it is more than likely that Graham Onions and Stuart Broad will retain their places inthe starting eleven. The fact that they have already had to change a winning side with Pietersen’s injury should ensure that they won’t make any more unless the pitch requires them to do so, meaning that Harmison and Panesar are likely to miss out again.
