David Warner ruled out of 2nd Test Match

David Warner out of Boxing Day Test against India

Australian opening batsman David Warner is out of the Boxing Day Test against India due to both injury, and bio security restrictions.

Warner and Abbott out of Boxing Day Test match

Both David Warner and Sean Abbott had originally planned to catch up with the rest of the Australian squad ahead of the 2nd Test match in Melbourne.

Instead the two players are continuing their recovery away from the main squad.

Both players left the Sydney area on December 19th, due to the worsening health situation.

Neither David Warner or Sean Abbott were in the Covid-19 hotspots in Sydney. But Cricket Australia’s bio security protocols prevents them from joining the squad until December 30th.

This rules them out of Melbourne, but means they can join the squad ahead of the 3rd Test.

Warner hasn’t sufficiently recovered from the groin strain he sustained in the 2nd ODI, and wouldn’t have played. But Abbott is now fit, and would have been available without the Covid-19 protocols.

Australia are likely to stick with the same 11 that won the 1st Test so convincingly.

The 2nd Test match starts at the MCG on Boxing Day. Australia currently lead India 1-0 in the 4 match series.
