I think I’m going to be sightly controversial here. First, congratulations to Graham Napier for equalling the world record for hitting 16 sixes in a first class innings.
But big deal, it was on a small ground with boundaries more suited to a local parks game. Ok, so if it was that easy everyone would be doing it, but lets not get carried away with it like the last time.
The last time being, when Napier played a similar innings 3 years ago (what has he done since) at Chelmsford (I think it was) when the boundaries where brought in about 30 yards, and he got an England call up on the back of it.
I know it was a first class game today, but by all accounts it was a T20 innings. I really hope we don’t have to endure another media led ‘lets get Napier in the England T20 squad’ campaign off the back of it.
Napier isn’t, never has been, and never will be good enough to play for England in any capacity, he is a county bowler who comes good with the occasional slog.
So please Nasser, when you write your next column don’t put the words, Napier, Squad, England and T20 anywhere near each other.
