Celkon Mobile Cup Betting – The Final

After trading at odds on favourites earlier in the competition, West Indies don’t even make the final. This tournament has basically now turned on it’s head as India make a late charge and look to add another trophy to their ODI repertoire.

India are now the online bookmakers favourites, the betting odds for the final are India 8/15 – Sri Lanka 6/4.

The Indian comeback is quite remarkable really, a few days back they looked dead and buried in this competition. There is even a possibility that their inspirational leader MS Dhoni could be back today, according to reports he is touch and go to play.

Personally I think it may be in India’s interests to see how they play a big match without him, to see if they are over dependant on him or not – but that’s just my view.

The weather shows there is a possible shower in the air today, although conditions are expected to be better today after the recent rain interruptions (bare in mind all three of the matches so far in Port-of-Spain have been won by the team batting first and under the Duckworth/Lewis method).

Well, how quickly things can turn around. A couple of days ago West Indies were all but through to the final and odds on favourites to win the competition, they now find themselves depending on ‘other results’ to get themselves through.

A Sri Lanka win today puts India out. A defeat for Sri Lanka should still see them qualify unless they get absolutely smashed, such is their superior run rate.

An Indian victory with a bonus point puts them through, and unless it is an absolute smashing, would probably see Sri Lanka join them in the final (as mentioned above), as the Sri Lankans are currently equal on points with West Indies, but above the hosts with a better run rate.

An Indian victory without a bonus point sees all three teams on 9 points, and would see Sri Lanka through, as the margin of defeat for Sri Lanka wouldn’t effect their run rate enough to eliminate them.

An Indian win in a close game should see India qualify also, as they will probably only need to win with a few balls to spare to pass West Indies’ run rate, and knock the hosts out.

Got all that? I think I have.

Today the bookmakers have India as 4/7 favourites, and Sri Lanka at 11/8.

There is rain in the area yet again, but like with the last game, there is a reserve day tomorrow.

Oh yes, and one more thing. A complete wash out sees India eliminated. We need to know all these fine details when placing bets.

Celkon Mobile Cup Betting – West Indies V Sri Lanka

Another mighty thrashing was handed out in this topsy turvy competition on Friday, as India hammered the hosts, West Indies by 102 runs (D/L method). Even allowing for Duckworth/Lewis, it was still a good beating.

The situation today sees a battered West Indies taking on Sri Lanka, with a win for the Windies guaranteeing them their spot in Thursday’s final.

The online bookmakers see this one as another tight one, and have West Indies as marginal favourites.

West Indies are 4/5 (1.80), and Sri Lanka are Even money (2.00).

The pitch had enough grass on it last Friday for both captains to claim they would have put the opposition in, had they won it. Obviously, by winning the toss, only Dwayne Bravo actually had the decision to make. Bravo’s bad luck didn’t end there, as he now finds himself suspended from today’s match for a slow over rate.

The tournament has opened right back up now with India claiming the bonus point last Friday. It now means all outcomes are back on the table.

A West Indies win today, with or without a bonus point, puts them in the final. If they lose they are not out, but they will be depending on the result of the final round-robin match between Sri Lanka and India, and bonus points, etc.

A win for Sri Lanka today with a bonus point puts them through. A win without a bonus point puts them level on points with West Indies, and opens up the prospect of all three teams finishing equal on points, and run rate deciding the final outcome. A win for India on Tuesday with a bonus point, will see them through to the final no matter what happens in today’s match.

With all these ifs, buts, and maybes, the outright winner betting has changed again with West Indies out to 6/4 favourites. India are now second favourites at 7/4, and Sri Lanka are the outsiders at 2/1.

Well, how do you recover from a beating like that in a few days? That’s the task facing India when they take on West Indies today in the next round of matches in the Celkon Mobile Cup.

India got absolutely thrashed off the park by Sri Lanka on Tuesday (they lost by 161 runs), and not only that, they seemed to totally contradict the conditions at Sabina Park by losing in such a convincing manner while batting second (through choice) – the previous two matches had seen the team batting first lose and struggle to score runs.

So if we take the conditions into consideration, it could be that this was an even bigger thrashing for India. Or, it could just be that the conditions had changed from the previous two matches.

The online bookmakers make a case for India today, and they are favourites for the victory. The odds are India 4/5 (1.80), and West Indies are Evens (2.00)

The competition has now moved to the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, where it will remain until its completion. This means a different wicket and slightly different conditions.

A win for West Indies today sees them qualify, India are not definitely out if they lose, but they will need a favour from West Indies when the hosts take on Sri Lanka. An India win without a bonus point will still leave them struggling, and relying on Sri Lanka losing both their remaining games (one of which, is obviously against India).

The outright winner betting reflects this with West Indies at 5/6 favourites to win the competion. Sri Lanka follow at odds of 7/4, and India are the outsiders at a very low on value looking 9/2.

When betting on cricket, I always look for value. The 9/2 available on India winning the competition doesn’t look value to me.

For these odds you first need India getting through with probably two wins, while needing Sri Lanka to lose to West Indies. Or if Sri Lanka beat West Indies, India would need to get more bonus points than Sri Lanka. If they don’t and finish equal on both points, and bonus points, India would then need a better run rate.

Oh yes, and then you need them to win the final. Personally I would want 9/2 on India qualifying for the final, never mind winning it.

Thanks to their bonus point against Sri Lanka, West Indies currently sit top of the table with 9 points (teams get 4 points for a win, or 5 points for a win with a bonus point).

Sri Lanka and India both have zero points, and as a result of this, today’s match is already almost a must win for both teams.

There was a great finish to the game between West Indies and India on Sunday, with India pushing West Indies really close after it initially looked like a walk in the park for the Windies.

I’m not sure whether the comeback was down to India’s ODI ability, or just simply West Indies making a pig’s ear of what should have been a reasonably comfortable run chase

Anyway, West Indies got there in the end, and as a result they are now the online bookmakers 11/10 favourites to win the trophy outright.

Onto today’s game and India are favourites. The bookmakers have India at 4/7, and Sri Lanka 11/8.

Punters in India wishing to bet on the match can do so with William Hill, as they accept customers registering from Indian addresses, you can read more about betting in India here at bettingsites.co.in

This is the last of the games at Sabina Park, Jamaica (the rest of the tournament is played at the Queen’s Park Oval, in Trinidad), and it gives Sri Lanka an immediate chance to avenge their ICC Champions Trophy semi-final defeat to India.

MS Dhoni is out of this game and the rest of the series, so it will be interesting to see how India cope without him. Dhoni is by far India’s most experienced ODI performer, so in a funny kind of way his absence might not be the worst thing to happen as it could be an interesting opportunity for Duncan Fletcher to judge how his less experienced players cope without their leader – and maybe identify Dhoni’s eventual successor.

The two games so far at Sabina Park have been won by the chasing side, and neither match produced masses of runs. The side that wins the toss should bat second if they are going on previous results, so expect a massive price swing in the odds after the toss.

As I mentioned above, the outright tournament betting see West Indies as 11/10 favourites. India are currently second favourites at 11/8, and Sri Lanka the outsiders at 4/1.

Celkon Mobile Cup Betting

Yet another one day international tournament starting later this week, this time a three-way competition – known as the Celkon Mobile Cup –  between West Indies, India and Sri Lanka, to be held in the Caribbean.

The Celkon Mobile Cup is a 7 match tri-series competition that will be played at two grounds, Sabina Park in Jamaica, and the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. It is a seven match tournament taking place from 28th June to 11th July, with each team playing the other two teams twice in a round-robin format, with the top two contesting the final in Trinidad on 11th July.

Not without controversy, the tri-series is basically the result of the scrapping, or rescheduling (whatever way you wish to look at it), of a Test series between West Indies and Sri Lanka, due to be played last May. The two boards conveniently decided that this was a better option, and with a lot of their players due to be at the IPL at the time, they may well have had a point.

The fact that India have now been drafted in to the itinerary leads the cynic in me to believe that the original decision was taken more with this competition in mind, as opposed to the decision being taken with the best interests of Test cricket at heart.

Anyway enough of me moaning.

After their ICC Champions Trophy victory last Sunday, and confirmation of their status as the best ODI team in the world, it is no surprise to see India as favourites in the cricket betting to also win this competition.

In the outright winner betting, the online bookmakers currently have India as 11/8 favourites, host side West Indies at 7/4, and Sri Lanka at 9/4.

From a betting perspective, the tournament appears to have credibility. All three competing nations have named their strongest squads, so at least the prices we are seeing in the betting odds can be taken as fair.

According to the weather forecasts, there appears to be a bit of rain in the air over the next couple of days, in the form of thunder storms. In this part of the world, this can be hit or miss, but never the less, this is a factor that needs to be taken into account when betting… what with the possibility of Duckworth/Lewis, etc.

It also brings the Betfair ‘Completed Match Market’ into play, which can be more fun than actually betting on cricket at times.

The first match is today at Sabina Park, and sees West Indies taking on Sri Lanka. West Indies are favourites at 8/11, and Sri Lanka are 11/10.
