01/05/14 – All teams have currently played 5 matches each, so the tournament is well and truly into full swing.
Australian, Glenn Maxwell (of Punjab) is currently the top run scorer with 300 runs from his 5 matches played, and as a result is the 6/5 favourite with Stan James to be the Top Run Scorer (Orange Cap) in this year’s competition.
Maxwell’s closest rivals are Dwayne Smith with 240 Runs, and Brendon McCullum with 193 runs. Smith is 11/2 also with Stan James, while McCullum is a best price of 9/1 with Betfair (Sportsbook).
Pre tournament favourite, Chris Gayle, is now 50/1 to win the Orange Cap, he currently has just 20 runs (he’s only played 1 match).
IPL Top Run Scorer Betting Preview
The 2014 Indian Premier League promises to be just as spectacular as any other year, with the world’s best batsmen all present at the premier T20 domestic competition in World cricket.
Chris Gayle is the winner of the Orange Cap (top run scorer) in two of the last three IPL seasons, with him finishing runner up to Michael Hussey last year. Hussey is again at this year’s tournament (he will be 39 in May), but has switched allegiances from the Chennai Super Kings to the Mumbai Indians.
This year Virat Kohli enters the competition as the form batsman, having just been awarded the player of the tournament in the recent World T20. Kohli is the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he will have a certain Chris Gayle in the same team. Good luck to the poor bowlers facing those two.
