Chris Wright signs for Warwickshire

I was pleased to hear this week that Chris Wright has signed for Warwickshire from Essex.

He’s no world beater and it is a fact that we won’t have to put up with the inconvenience of losing him to England, but he seems to me to be a good honest bowler who will do a decent job for the Bears.

He certainly strengthens the bowling unit and the squad, last year the seam department was usually Woakes, Rankin, Clarke and one other. At least now Ashley Giles will have a 4th experienced seam bowler to choose from.

Wright will also help fill the void created when we lose Boyd Rankin to Ireland at times during next season. As it stands, (I believe) that Rankin is an Ireland player. He was named in a Lions Squad last season and has expressed a desire to play for England should the chance arise, but as to the best of my knowledge he is still available for selection for Ireland.
